Adsense publishers logging onto their accounts today may notice something new and different – Adsense for Mobile!
While not yet globally available, the arrival of Adsense for mobile has been eagerly anticipated by mobile publishers for some time. Adsense has set the standard for contextual advertising on traditional web pages and it is expected that the results from Adsense for mobile will surpass the mobile options for PPC site monetization which are currently available.
Adsense for mobile can be run on xhtml (WAP2), WML or chtml pages which are supported by server-side scripting (asp, jsp, php or perl/cgi) and which comply with Google’s program policies. You may only place one ad per page, and have a choice of either a single or double text ad block.
Adwords for Mobile
Where do these ads come from? Adwords advertisers, of course! Adwords users can now have their ads displayed on mobile devices, providing their landing page is in a format which can be read by mobile device users or can be easily converted to do so. A handy new tool on the Adwords site shows how your page would be adapted for mobile users.
If your regular text ads are eligible to run on the mobile search network, they will run there for free (no charge for clicks) through November 18 (unless you opt out) ! You can also create a mobile ad and link it to a mobile lander, however you will be charged for clicks on a newly created mobile text ad.
All in all, an exciting and long-awaited development for mobile publishers and advertisers! For more information, see the Adsense help center.
